"The World will be so much more peaceful when we end religion." I hear this a lot. I suspect it's wishful thinking, that if much conflict is religious, and since you can easily kill a group's cult-ure by getting your hands on their kids - school, TV - then we can peacefully absorb any population within at worst one generation. A glance back to the 20th century suggests that humans can manage at least as much violence without religion.
Presumably the natural purpose of religion is to aid group survival. You can remove that means but the conflict remains, with that removal likely just one group's attack on another.
UPDATE: Some readers misinterpreted the inclusion of Darwin on the chalkboard. I had in mind the-powers-that-be's selective use of Darwin, using him against Christianity - and rarely against any other religion - while forgetting him when evolution's implications are less convenient.
